Flight Ride Four, 2008
Lowry Redevelopment Authority, Denver, Colorado
An illuminated sculptural bus shelter for a residential development.
Marking the entrance to a new residential neighborhood, this illuminated bus shelter serves Lowry Redevelopment, the mixed-use community on the site of the former Lowry Air Force base. The artist-designed shelter pays homage to the former life of the site by referencing aviation forms from the site’s Air Force history.
The design includes a regulation weather canopy, bench, and Transportation District map case. The bus shelter’s 32’ tall wing-like mast incorporates embedded LED lights, acting as a beacon for the development. Fiberglass forms and an inlayed concrete plaza also make reference to the former life of the site.
