Alchemy Works, 2000
Hill Hall, Colorado School of Mines, Golden, CO
An architecturally-integrated design team installation for an Engineering Building.
Project Description
This was a design team collaboration with an architect, an artist, and the client/users on a new facility for the Department of Metallurgy. In collaboration with Denver artist Carolyn Braaksma, the artist worked with RNL Architects to incorporate several design ideas into functional elements of the building. The team was involved with designing and shaping the public spaces of the building and embedding art into features such as the floors, columns, windows, sidewalks, and the entrance plaza. This incorporation of art was focused on the relationship between the ongoing exploration of the Metallurgy Department and its historic roots in the study of Alchemy.
