Faraway Nearby Art Glass David Griggs

Faraway Nearby, 2010

Front Range College, Ft. Collins, CO

A sculptural art glass installation for a Science Building on a College campus.

Project Description

Inside the entrance lobby of a new Science Building, this luminous design is made up of layers of hand-painted and textured Art Glass. The glass panels are heat-slumped with custom-designed textures and then infused with translucent color. Stainless steel frames serve as support armatures and material counterpoints to the glass. Tucked inside the channels of these frames are LED lights, programmed to wash the glass with ever-changing light and color. As the main feature of this two-story entrance lobby, this Art Glass piece serves as a functional light fixture while also providing an artful impression of the variety of scientific disciplines being taught in the building.
